PRESS RELEASE: BVIEC LAUNCHES “BEYOND THE BILL” COMMUNITY MEETING SERIES

Tortola, British Virgin Islands, October 28, 2026 — The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) is taking its commitment to public engagement a step further with the launch of “Beyond the Bill,” a Territory-wide community meeting series designed to bring residents closer to the people, services and decisions that impact their electricity supply.
The initiative will feature 11 community meetings across all nine Electoral Districts, creating opportunities for residents to engage directly with BVIEC’s management and departmental representatives, gain a better understanding of the Corporation’s operations and ongoing initiatives, and receive answers to questions affecting their households, businesses and communities.
The inaugural meeting will take place on Thursday, 5 November 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the West End Community Centre in District 1.
Going Beyond the Electricity Bill
Recognising that customers’ concerns extend beyond the amount reflected on their monthly electricity bills, the “Beyond the Bill” series is intended to promote greater transparency, improve public understanding of electricity services, address misconceptions and strengthen communication between BVIEC and the communities it serves.
Each meeting will feature concise presentations from the Corporation’s various departments, covering topics such as:
- Understanding Your Electricity Bill: How fuel surcharges, fuel subsidies and the targeted 1,500 kWh initiative affect customers.
- VIEWCo and the Future of Utility Services: Updates on the merger and ongoing collaboration between BVIEC and the Water and Sewerage Department.
- Customer Services: The Know Your Customer (KYC) Initiative, new electricity connections and customer service improvements.
- Digital Services: Online bill payments and reporting service-related issues.
- Renewable Energy and Electrical Safety: The Solar Technology Energy Programme (STEP), electricity theft prevention and infrastructure safety.
- Power Generation and Outages: Understanding the factors affecting electricity generation, service reliability and common misconceptions surrounding power outages.
Your Questions. Our Answers.
A central feature of the initiative will be direct interaction between residents and BVIEC’s management and departmental representatives.
Residents will be encouraged to take note of their questions and concerns as the various departmental presentations are delivered. At the conclusion of all presentations, a dedicated Questions and Answers session will provide an opportunity for attendees to raise these questions directly with the relevant representatives and receive clarification on matters affecting them and their communities.
Residents are also encouraged to submit specific questions in advance through BVIEC’s official social media channels, particularly where they would like a matter addressed during the meeting.
The Corporation intends to use feedback gathered throughout the series to identify recurring concerns, improve public education efforts and support ongoing service improvements.
Reaching Communities Across the Territory
The initiative will continue into 2027, with a minimum of two meetings planned per active month, excluding December due to the holiday season.
While all nine Electoral Districts will be covered, separate meetings will be held on Jost Van Dyke and Anegada, in addition to those planned on Tortola and Virgin Gorda, ensuring that residents across the Territory have meaningful opportunities to participate.
Dates and venues for subsequent meetings will be announced as arrangements are finalised in collaboration with the respective District Representatives and relevant stakeholders.
The Corporation encourages residents to come prepared with questions, concerns and suggestions relating to electricity services and ongoing initiatives.
