The British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) has been actively working on repairing the damaged subsea cable that supplies electricity to Jost Van Dyke. Despite challenges with sea conditions, repair attempts were made during the week of January 29, 2024, and on February 4, 2024. Unfortunately, unfavorable sea conditions on the latest attempt led to further delays.
Rest assured, BVIEC is committed to completing the repairs as quickly and safely as possible. Additionally, it’s important to clarify that statements about excessive fees for Jost Van Dyke residents due to the standby generator are untrue. BVIEC is covering all additional costs associated with the generator, ensuring a reliable power source for the community.

Fossil fuel prices are likely to rise due to increased summer demand, OPEC's extended supply cuts, and a potential Federal Reserve rate cut affecting the USD. These factors impact electricity bills, but BVIEC is committed to monitoring markets and mitigating price fluctuations.
