BVIEC ANNOUNCES UPCOMING MAINTENANCE WORKS TO SUBSTATIONS ACROSS THE TERRITORY
Tortola, British Virgin Islands, May 21, 2025 – The British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) wishes to inform the public that essential maintenance works will be conducted on four key substations across the Territory — Pockwood Pond, Long Bush, Fishers Cove (Virgin Gorda), and Long Swamp — beginning on the night of Thursday, May 22, 2025, through to June 24, 2025.
The scope of the maintenance includes the replacement of voltage transformer components, main busbar replacements, installation of a spare breaker, and general maintenance of other substation elements. These upgrades are vital to ensuring the reliability and integrity of the Territory’s electricity infrastructure.
Transmission and Distribution Engineer Mr. Leroy Abraham emphasised the importance of these works, stating:
“This scheduled maintenance is part of our ongoing commitment to enhance the resilience and reliability of the BVI’s electrical grid. By addressing these critical components, we are working to minimise unexpected outages and improve overall system performance for all residents and businesses.”
The Corporation’s goal is to minimise disruptions in power distribution during these activities, which will be conducted daily during daytime and nighttime hours, however, intermittent power outages may occur due to the nature of the maintenance. BVIEC advises all customers to take necessary precautions and stay informed through our official communication channels.
Acting General Manager Ms. Symorne Penn also commented on the upcoming activity:
“These biennial maintenance efforts are a cornerstone of our infrastructure management strategy as we move forward in 2025. We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we carry out these necessary improvements.”
BVIEC remains committed to providing safe, reliable, and sustainable electricity to the Virgin Islands community. We thank the public in advance for their cooperation.
