BVIEC SHOWCASES RENEWABLE ENERGY INITIATIVE AT CTL’S 2ND ANNUAL TOOLS & BUILDERS EXPO

Tortola, British Virgin Islands, September 22, 2025 — The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) proudly participated in the 2nd Annual Tools & Builders Expo hosted by Clarence Thomas Limited (CTL) Home Centre at their compound on Saturday, September 13, 2025, where the Corporation highlighted its landmark renewable energy project — the Solar Technology Energy Programme (S.T.E.P.).

Throughout the expo, BVIEC engaged with residents, customers, and contractors as they explored the various exhibitor booths. On display at the Corporation’s booth were several components of BVIEC’s solar grid-tie system, including an inverter, a solar panel, and the brackets and mechanisms required for rooftop installation.

The initiative attracted significant interest from attendees, many of whom were learning about S.T.E.P. for the first time. Visitors were particularly impressed when briefed on the benefits of the programme, including its role in advancing renewable energy adoption across the Territory. Those already familiar with S.T.E.P. were able to gain deeper technical insights, while existing registrants took the opportunity to follow up on the progress of their applications.

To further engage the public, BVIEC offered branded giveaways to participants who scanned one of three specially designed QR codes. These codes directed attendees to a digital brochure outlining S.T.E.P., an online registration portal, and BVIEC’s social media platforms, providing easy access to programme details and ongoing updates.

Present at the expo was Project Lead for S.T.E.P., Clyde Potter Jr., who stated:
“The S.T.E.P. initiative represents BVIEC’s commitment to helping our customers take an active role in the Territory’s transition to renewable energy. This expo was the perfect opportunity to showcase the technology behind the programme and to answer questions directly from the public. We are encouraged by the positive feedback and look forward to seeing more residents take advantage of this opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint while lowering their electricity costs.”

Meanwhile, Public Relations and Marketing Media Manager, Kamal Haynes, noted:
“Community engagement is a vital part of our mission at BVIEC. Events like the CTL Tools & Builders Expo give us the chance not only to educate the public about our renewable energy initiatives but also to build trust and strengthen relationships with our customers. We are grateful to CTL for hosting this platform and to the many residents who stopped by our booth to learn more about S.T.E.P. and the benefits it brings to the Virgin Islands.”

Also representing Team BVIEC at the event were Engineer Isaiah Jacobs, members of the Information and Technology Department — Hector Cruz David, Lance McIntosh, and Tamika Herbert — along with Facilities Manager Brian Graham, who played a pivotal role in booth setup and disassembly.

BVIEC extends its gratitude to CTL Home Centre for hosting the expo and providing a platform to connect with the community on sustainable energy solutions.
