BVIEC CELEBRATES SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH OF JOB TRAINING MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME
Tortola, British Virgin Islands, April 29, 2025— The British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) proudly celebrates the successful completion of its first Job Training Mentorship Programme in collaboration with the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS).
The initiative, held from March 31 to April 11, 2025, saw six Grade 11 students assigned across various departments within the Corporation, gaining invaluable exposure to careers in the energy sector.
The inaugural cohort included Michael-Anson Findlay, Kerdella Carter, Caheem Henry, Kh’Mouri Anthony, Ranaldo Francis, and Amari Johnson. These students were paired with seasoned BVIEC professionals who mentored and guided them throughout their placements.
Assigned to the Transmission and Distribution Department were Michael-Anson Findlay, Amari Johnson, and Caheem Henry, who were exposed to the areas of Lines and Metering, Cable Jointing, and Planning, under the mentorship of Shemroy Skeete, Edward Pollock, and Kenrick Thomas.
Kh’Mouri Anthony and Ranaldo Francis were assigned to the Generation Department, where they engaged with the Mechanical, Operations, and Electrical Units, mentored by Antoine Brewley, Enous Prince, and Leslie Graham.
Kerdella Carter was placed within the Finance Department, where she gained experience in Customer Service, Accounts Payable, and Billing, guided by Dianje Browne-Bernard, Florencia Sutton, Tonya George-Campbell, and Petra Romney.
As part of the programme’s closing activities, all students delivered presentations summarising their experiences and learnings before their mentors, members of the People, Culture and Talent Services Department, and Senior Management during a special session held on Friday, April 11, 2025. The event also saw support from the General Manager, Transmission and Distribution Foremen, Occupational Health and Safety personnel, Assistant Mechanics, Plant Operators, and the Public Relations and Marketing Media Manager.
Several outstanding performances were recognised:
- Photo Challenge Winners: Kh’Mouri Anthony and Ranaldo Francis of the Generation Department, with prizes sponsored by the People, Culture and Talent Services Team.
- Best Presentation Award: Michael-Anson Findlay of the Transmission and Distribution Department, prize sponsored by the Occupational Health and Safety Team.
- Most Improved Development Award: Caheem Henry, who, despite being unable to present due to illness, was the first to submit his project. His prize was sponsored by the People, Culture and Talent Services Team.
All participating students were awarded certificates of completion for their remarkable efforts and achievements.
Mrs. Tamara George-Barry, People, Culture and Talent Services Manager at the Corporation, is the pioneer behind the initiative. She revealed that the programme was born from a vision to strengthen opportunities for students within BVIEC during their job training experience.
“Through meaningful mentorship and structured exposure to our operations, we aimed to bridge the gap between student ambition and real-world career opportunities. Following conversations with ESHS guidance counsellors and student families, mentors were carefully selected, trained, and oriented on their roles and expectations to ensure a successful programme launch. We are thrilled with the success of this first cohort and look forward to expanding the initiative.”
Students began their journey with a comprehensive orientation session that introduced them to BVIEC’s mission, vision, core values, safety protocols, and organisational expectations, setting the stage for a rewarding experience.
The BVIEC-ESHS Job Training Mentorship Programme marks a significant investment in the Territory’s future workforce and reflects BVIEC’s commitment to fostering local talent, education, and professional development.
