ACCOUNTANT

 

The BVI Electricity Corporation (“BVIEC”) is currently seeking a highly motivated and detail-orientated individual to fill the vacant position of Accountant in the Finance
Department. The Accountant should be able to research and analyze financial data for accurate reporting to management. As an integral team player, the ideal candidate must
be able to maintain, develop, and implement financial best practices while working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

1. OBJECTIVES OF THE ROLE:
• Provide support for the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Financial
Controller primarily and additional support to senior management, as
directed, to ensure that organizational goals and objectives are accomplished
financially and operations run efficiently.
• To ensure that timely and accurate financial data is prepared thus providing a
realistic view of the Corporation’s Financial position.
• Integral in the effective management of direct reports such as Accounts
Officer, Cashier Supervisors, Accounts Payable Officers.

2. QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with three (3) or more years’
experience, with a minimum of one (1) year in a supervisory role as an
Accountant reporting directly to upper management;
• Experience in creating financial statements.
• Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close
processes.

3. SALARY:
Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience.

4. PRIMARY DUTIES (include, but not limited to):
• Analyze all fuel receipt, lube oil and waste oil invoices to ensure accuracy in
accordance with signed agreements.
• Capitalize new connections.
• Assist with the preparation of the monthly and quarterly accounts for review.
• Assist with the schedules and preparation of the annual budget and annual
financial accounts for audit.
• Assist with the maintenance of adequate internal controls and accounting
systems.
• Review inventory control transactions and entries;
• Review all entries posted to the payroll journal for execution and
disbursement;
• Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger in order to update and
balance accounts.
• Prepare monthly fuel inventory journals.
• Prepare all monthly bank reconciliations.
• Assist with the review of the cash flow statements indicating the sources of
cash inflows and outflows.
• Ensure that the accounts payables procedures are in accordance with the
Corporation’s financial procedures.
• Verify adjustments, journals, payment vouchers, invoices, all accounts
payables transactions before entry into the general ledger

5. PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AND COMPETENCIES:
• High Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and an aptitude for learning
Microsoft Great Plains and related systems;
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
• Excellent organizational and time management skills;
• Strong time-management skills and an ability to organize and coordinate
multiple projects;
• Flexible team player and willing to adapt to changes;
• Ability to maintain professionalism and strict confidentiality of
information related to BVIEC, its employees and other key stakeholders;
• Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles;
• Accuracy and attention to details;
• Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
