*** Most recent power outages have NOT been as a result of problems with the new Generators ***
Most faults in recent weeks have been caused due to issues with the Transmission and Distribution Network, and have not been a result of problems with the new Generators.
The brief power supply interruption in portions of Road Town today was due to a fault on the Transmission and Distribution System in the area of the Sea View Hotel (See Photos Below).
The outages last week Thursday morning (July 13th) were as a result of lightning strikes interacting with the Transmission and Distribution Network.
The outages affecting the Eastern Side of Tortola and the entire island of Virgin Gorda successively on June 24th to 26th were as a result of faults on the 34.5 KV overhead transmission line in the Hodges Creek area. (See Photo Below)
Deputy General Manager of BVIEC – Mr. Henry Creque provided an update to JTV news recently. He also indicated however that BVIEC has been experiencing some comparatively minor issues with the three new Wartsila Generators as well. The issues, the first of which occurred while the manufacturers were testing the units here in the BVI, are all being urgently addressed under warrantee provisions in the contract, and have resulted in many fewer interruptions than those mentioned above.
In recent weeks, the outages which have occurred as a result of the issue mentioned above occurred on Saturday July 8th, 2017. Otherwise, the Corporation has been quite satisfied with the performance of the new Generators to date.
